I bought furniture at Havertys and was steered toward Cifitifinancial instead their credit dept The sales rep failed to inform me of the differences in the financial plans. Having had a Havertys account a few years ago, I erroneously thought that the 36 month no interest plan was also through their credit dept. WRONG! Haverty's will only finance 12 mths interest free, anything longer is through Citifinancial. Two weeks later I received a bill from them. Not knowing much about this company, I went online and to research and found a moutain of complaints against them. I haven't made my first payment but based on the blogs I have seen about Citifinancial, I am not hopeful that it will be smooth payment period. They have no online payment feature which is odd for a company so large; additionally, the bill states that once your check is received the payment is electronically debited from your account and the check destroyed. In my opinion this allows them to say they didn' receive the check on time and you have no cancelled check to verify the payment date - that in and of itself is UNSCRUPULOUS to me.
My bank has bill pay with them, I don't know if this will workout better. But I am prepared to hire a lawyer if necessary to protect my credit from unnecessary charges and false credit reports. We will see. I definitely will not purchase anything else from Havertys. I don't believe the adequately explained the differences in the available financing options. In fact they never offered 12 mths, just the longer 24 and 36 month plans through Citifinancial. Not good customer service!
Do yourself a favor, make sure you know 100% for sure who is financing your purchases, the store or an outside agency. If it is Citifinancial and you cannot purchase the item any other way, run not walk out as fast as you can and don't look back and shop elsewhere There are other reputable credit companies out there who are more reasonable. Any store worth shopping in should not want to do business with Citifinancial given its horrendous reputation
